Is your period due around this time?
Either way, it will be fine. Ideally, you should take it on the first day of your bleeding, or the first Sunday after bleeding starts. However, you can actually take them anytime as long as you wait a week before relying on the for contraception.
If your period should be due around this time, the brown blood is simply old blood that 's being shed. Even though "Day 1" starters are supposed to be immediately protected, I would suggested waiting a week before having unprotected sex, as you're not sure if you've started your period, or are having a bit of breakthrough bleeding.
Also, keep in mind that these will not protect against STDs such as herpes and HPV, so be safe.
I hope this helps!
