I have had female problems since I was 12 (my first period) I constantly bleed so at age 11 I have to be on birth control to regulate my cycles. I am 32 now and I have always had very very brownish spotting I never worried about it because when I get my yearly they say some women just spot and due to my ovulation problem do not worry but I am worried. if I get off the pill I will not have a period for a whole year but I do spot and it not painful no cramps just the spotting is really getting to me even though it is not really noticable. Any suggestions on what I can suggest to my doctor to stop the spotting?

Optional Information:
Female, Age: 32, Texas

Already Tried:
my doctor just place me back on the pill no solution for the light spotting since I have no discomfort.

Reply to M. Carter, M.S.'s Post: I was on orthrotrycylene birth control for years... which regulated my cycles..then when I got in my late late 20's I went to plan parenthood health clinic and they put me on different kind but even after my period I spot every day. Like I said it is not painful just the odor from having a discharge of spotting blood everyday is uncomfortable and the doctors keep telling me since my pap smear come back normal there is nothing to worry about. Do you think I should ask them to try another brand? I sometimes think the birth control they have me on is not strong enough anymore.

I would try going back to the orthotricyclen... they have generic versions of it available now, so it should be cheaper than it originally was. Different birth control pills can have different amounts of estrogen and different amounts and kinds of progestin agents. If this is going to regulate your period, it may take a few cycles (generally 3) for your body to become adjusted again. However, if it does not regulate your cycle, you need to be evaluated for a possible underlying medical conditions that are causing the constant spotting, such as hormonal or endocrine abnormalities, cysts, polyps, fibroids, adhesions, polycystic ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, adenomyosis, infection, pelvic inflammatory disorder, etc.

I hope this helps!

I have one more question.. If there is not pain with the spotting I have do you think that it might be a serious condition? Because the doctor I go makes it seem though it is normal since my pap smears come back normal. But I will ask them to place me on a stronger b-control pill.

Chances are, it's not a serious condition. It could be something as simple as a hormonal imbalance. If the return to orthotricyclen doesn't regulate things as they did before, have him do a blood test to check your hormone levels and look for infection, and possibly, a transvaginal ultrasound to look for any abnomalities. Usually, you'd notice some kind of discomfort with these, but some infections can have few to no symptoms (especially chlamydia). If you aren't sure of your STD status, I would have this check as well, just to be sure.
