i take the blood pressure lowering drug toprol xl for a fast heart related to seveer hypertention. I started this medication 9 months ago I had coldness in my hands and feet. At the time i started beta blockers i was a tobacco user. I quit several months ago but my hands and feet are still cold all of the time. I am 21 years old i have tried to stop the blood pressure medication but quickly found out that this would not be a wise thing to do. Because of my fast heart rhythm and because my doctor says that i am healthy My question is if necesary could the toprol be replaced or at least lower the dose Could toprol be added to another blood pressure medication. I would also like to know if there are any lifestyle changes i could try to see if they help I have already given up the tobacco is there anything elese i could do at home.

I don't find very many examples of high blood pressure in people in their 20's, but I guess you treat it like you would for any other age with medications if you have to to prevent a stroke. It sounds like you have other circulatory problems and anxiety and a take an anti depressant. It would be good for you to learn what to do dietary wise and to decrease stress. I have a link that goes into details. Learning relaxation exercises or taking yoga classes can be good for anxiety problems and blood pressure control, if you can fit it in without becoming too overwhelmed with too many things to do!
