Cause of fast pulse (between 100 and 120)

I have a normal blood pressure but the pulse is always very fast regardless of what I am doing.
My doctor put me on Digitex yesterday but could not think why the pulse would always be so fast even when I am sitting and resting. I noticed this after the death of my husband 3 years ago, but I thought it was normal until I found out that it is not so. I would like to know what is the cause of it and if I should worry or not about it.
