Question

swelling of feet

Sent to Health Experts August 03, 2006 9:11 a.m.

My wife has started to experience swelling of here feet after coming home from work. She is not overweight, but is taking high blood pressure medication. She has stopped her intake of salt and is eating small portions of meals. She was never a big eater, anyway. She is 48 and going through menopause, so I was wondering if there is correlation that will eventually subside or there might be other factors involved.

Optional Information:
Female , Age: 48

Already Tried:
cutting out salts and putting ice on in the evenings

Hello,
Swelling of feet can occur after if there is prolonged standing or when there is legs are hanging as in sitting in a chair for prolonged periods.
Has this been happening recently?
How is the blood pressure right now (within a few days)?

The blood pressure is fine, but lately there been more standing involved with my job. My job as a document cooordinator involves sitting and standing when I do filing. I'm concerned with the fact that I have been doing this type of work for years and just all of a sudden the past month this has come up.

what your wife is experiencing is called EDEMA and can be brought on by many factors. You have listed the salt intake reduction and this is good. The feet need to be raised in order to help as well. Special stockings can be worn to help with the problems associated with this.

Diabetes should be checked as a cause also.
