I have suffered from anorexia for the past three years, and I am currently trying to recover. For the past year, I've noticed that my legs have been frequently swelling up, especially after I exercise or when I get too hot. I recently started a job in which I am on my feet for 7 to 8 hours, and the swelling has gotten worse. I've also noticed it in my hands as well. What could be causing this? Could it be related to my anorexia? What should I do about it?

Optional Information:
Female , Age: 22

Already Tried:
Diuretics (water pills), elevating legs, cold compress

This could also be a sign of poor circulation so this is something that needs to be checked to make sure it is not fluid buildup and you have no arteries that are blocking the flow to your hands and feet. If this is has been going on for quite some time then it could not only be related to fluid retention but due to poor circulation. It would not be related to the anorexia but since this has been an issue for the past three years and you are trying to recover then it could be caused by the diet you are eating so make sure you are eating a healthy diet and not retaining any fluids as well. But if the diuretics have not been a help this would be more related to poor circulation then it would be fluid retention.

Reply to Cheryl K.'s Post: What kind of tests should be conducted by my doctor to check for this? I'm very concerned that it could be my heart. If it isn't, what else should I check?
