Dear maritza,

Your blood pressure is high which could cause the headaches. I am more concerned with the chest tightness. Stress can cause both chest discomfort and high blood pressure, however it really needs to be evaluated to rule out a cardiac event. Chest pain or tightness should never be ignored.

You're young....and this usually makes people mistake that the problem is not cardiac-related, but it is VERY possible. To answer your direct question.....yes, these symptoms do sound related, but more importantly, they need to be addressed by your doctor ASAP. You will most likely have an EKG and blood tests to check your cardiac enzymes, and blood pressure monitoring. Once diagnosed, appropriate treatment can be given whether it be anti-hypertensives. It may all be caused by stress in which case there are treatments for, too.

Where EXACTLY is the right and left sided pain?

Is it near the old hernia site?

Higher? Lower?

In your chest?

Maritza,

Yes, it can be related, and I understand that medical care can be very expensive without insurance, however you really want to have this checked to rule out a cardiac problem.

The pain you describe sounds like it's around your diaphragm which if there is injury there, could cause a difficulty breathing just like you described.

Talk to someone at the doctor about a payment plan. MOST places will accept as little as $10/month. I also want you to look at the following website. It is Family Health Plus which is a health insurance plan available to adults in NY State. It goes on a sliding scale according to your earnings.

Governor Pataki developed this plan a few years ago and it has help MANY New Yorkers get quality healthcare. At the time you apply, you may find out if you are even eligible for Medicaid. Please check it out and get yourself cleared.
