I took a Boniva pill (1X only) on August
Sent to Health Experts October 02 09:48 AM

I took a Boniva pill (1X only) on August 13th. Two hours later, got a headache. Their literature does say a possible side effect is "persistent/severe headache". I am still experiencing a headache, and a cat scan ruled out anything other than 'sinusitis', for which I took some antibiotics. I can't locate a number to call manufacturer direct.

Thank you.

I have had a look at the prescribing information, and after this length of time I do not feel that the Boniva is still the cause of the headache, Although the half life of the tablet is long, the therapeutic levels should be much reduced by now.

I was concerned to hear that you don't drink a lot of water. One very common cause of long term headache is chronic dehydration. In the absence of other causes, I would be inclined to increase your fluid intake for a week to see what impact this has.

The other thing to bear in mind is painkiller use. If you haven't use any painkillers so far then try tylenol for two days then stop.

However if you have been using painkillers every day for a while then stop these, as a rebound headache can occur with long term use of painkillers. Finally ensure that your have had blood pressure and your eyes tested. Just to rule out those two common causes too.

Does this help?
