An eighty two year old woman on high blood pressure medication
has had the reading 116 over 43 for the last few weeks. Her average pressure is 160 over 75. Is this cause for alarm?
What would cause such a lasting change in pressure?

Hello Kathleen,

Her blood pressure is low. It should be at least 120/80 . So it needs to be raised and cause of the drop in the blood pressure should be eliminated. So she needs a medical investigation to find the cause of the drop in the blood pressure. She may need her blood pressure medication dose to be reduced to raise the blood pressure, if she is not drinking enough she needs to drink more to raise the blood pressure. Her blood needs to be checked to rule out an internal slow bleeding, if the blood count is low she needs blood transfusion etc.

I suggest to you to call her doctor as soon as possible. If you can not get in touch with her doctor immediately, take her to an Urgent Care center for an evalution.
