Question

What is considered low blood pressure?

Sent to Health Experts June 22, 2007 10:15 p.m.

I checked my blood pressure today and it was 96/63 and usually runs about the same everytime I check it. I am a female that is 24 years old and I weigh 182 lbs. I know people who are overweight tend to have high blood pressure but is it common for them to have low blood pressure and how do you know if it is too low?

A blood pressure below 90/60 is considered low in emergency conditions which cause blood loss or dehydration in a individual who normally has higher blood pressure. However at other times in otherwise normal individuals there is no definite set criteria for a low blood pressure. Even a blood pressure of 70/40 may be considered normal for some individuals who always have this readng. Genarally young females have commonly low readings usually below 100 and is considered normal.

Being overweight and having high blood pressure at same time is considered a risk factor for heart disease. However being overweight does not necessarily mean that a person is likely to have high blood pressure. Your blood pressure is in the normal reference range.

I hope this helps. Please click accept if no further queries.
