My husband is a white male, 30 Years old, type one diabetes for 12 years. During the last week or so he has noticed a firm pressure on his trachea near the Adams apple. He has also noticed some mild muscles twitches in his legs. He is not slurring, appears to have no muscle weakness. Runs about 5 miles 4X week and has noticed no shortness of breath or fatique. He is 6' 2" 215 lbs. Also taking Lipitor and has just stopped drinking caffeine pop due to a slightly elevated blood pressure. He has convinced himself he has the early signs of ALS.

Hello

This could be due to a low level of calcium in his blood. I would try increasing calcium, with more cheese, or calcium supplements. Dairy products are good, and must be taken with supplements to help the supplements do their jobs. I really don't think this is the beginning of ALS. But, if this continues after a week or so of added calcium, a trip to the doctor is merited for some preliminary blood work to make sure all is well.

Low calcium, magnesium or potassium can cause muscle twitching. It often manifests in the leg muscles first. Since your husband is a runner, he may be depleting these minerals when running, and sweating.
