Sent to Health Experts November 30 11:46 PM

How long can I have a blood pressure in 190/99 range and it not be life threatening. I know it has been this way for at least 3 days that I know of. I am on blood pressure meds...lopresser and norvasc. Just started norvasc today. And can taking about 8 aspirin a day do permenant damage?

sooner,

Unfortunately, there is no way to tell how long a person could maintain such a high pressure before suffering devastating effects such as a stroke. I am not trying to scare you, only to be truthful, when I say that it could be anywhere from minutes to weeks.

High blood pressure can also damage other organs of the body, such as the heart, kidneys and eyes. Even if it does not kill you, each day that it remains high puts you at risk for permanent, often irreversible organ damage.

If you have not already, you need to seek immediate evaluation and possibly treatment from a doctor, as soon as possible. It is obvious by your readings that your Norvasc and Lopressor are not managing your pressure well enough.

To answer your other question, yes, taking 8 aspirins per day can cause permanent damage. Not only can it erode the lining of your stomach (which can lead to bleeding ulcers, which are more dangerous in people who have high blood pressure), but it can cause ringing in the ears as well as mental confusion and low blood oxygen levels (hypoxia). It has also been known to cause dehydration, fever, and blood acid/base alterations.

I hope I've answered all your questions. If not, please ask and I'd be glad to clarify. You're not expected to pay for an answer until you're satisfied. I'll be glad to leave you a positive feedback once you've accepted.

I talked to my doctor today and he prescribed the norvasc in addition to the lopresser. How long does it usually take for the norvasc to start working?
