I started taking Hyzaar in Dec. In Feb, I caught a cold that developed into a bronchitis severe enough where I had to take Advair for the first time in my life. Now that it is tree pollen allergy season, my congestion is much worse than it has ever been. A cross country flight yesterday has left me with a lot of ear pressure still. Could the Hyzaar be making these usually minor inconveniences worse? Thanks

Hello,

Hyzzar may have a side effect like stuffy nose. You had congestion already due to allergy. Congestion aggravates the ear pressure in the flight.

You can feel the ear pressure problem more during take-off and landing of plane if you have allergy, congestion, sinusitis.

Sometimes this problem may persists for few days after the journey.

You can try some remedial measure like-

chewing gums, yawning which open up the blocked tube

If yawning and swallowing are not effective, you can unblock your ears as follows:

Pinch your nostrils shut.

Take a mouthful of air.

Using your cheek and throat muscles, force the air into the back of your nose.

When you hear a loud pop in your ears, you have succeeded. Do not try to do forcefully.

You can use decongestant nasal drop to clear up congestion.

If problem persists you should contact ENT specialist for further management.

If you need further clarifications, I will be happy to explain you.
