I have a 1/2 inch area between my nose and mouth that bleeds overnite, forms a scab, clears for a day and then bleeds again overnite. What is it?

You don't say how long you've had this.

Here are some ideas.

It might be a cold sore that has gotten infected. You would need oral antibiotics to heal it. As long as it is infected with bacteria, it may spread and continue to not heal.

If it continues more than a week to ten days, I'd see the doctor.

If it becomes worse, see the doctor sooner.

It is definitely not a cold sore. Have applied topical antibiotics with no results.

It could be a staph infection which would need oral antibiotics.

Sorry to disagree with the people above, but it sounds more like Basal Skin Cancer to me. Basal skin cancer can be very misleading b/c it's growth is usually very slow, very commonly occurs on the face and exhibits a very similar pattern to what you mentioned up above.

This type of skin cancer begins very small and then cycles through with scabbing/rough like appearance. It will then seem to heal up and is often time just thought to be a patch of dry skin or other minor skin condition. Unfortunately, during those times that it appears to be better, it's actually spreading deeper throughout.

Although Basal skin cancer is the least worrisome one, if this is what you have, you will need to have it removed. I've had mine removed via Moh's surgery, but oftentimes they can just be done in the dermatologists' office.

I would encourage you to make an appt. today with a dermatologist to have that area evaluated/biopsied and then to follow through with their recommended treatment plan.

Best wishes to you and please feel free to let me know if I can be of more help. I have quite a bit of experience with this issue and would be more then willing to offer advice when I'm able. To complete the transaction, feel free to just click the "Accept" button up above.

Take care and good luck as you work through this!
