surgeory mistake

Sent to Health Experts August 15 09:14 PM

I had my signoid colon removed by mistake. The dr.thought I had a 2cm cancer tumor (T2) in it.The tumor was REALLY in my distal transeverse colon.Next I had my entire colon removed.I wonder if my signoid colon was left alone, how much colon would have been removed to safely get the tumor out of me??

Hi Arnieee

I'm sure that one of our doctors will chime in here when they are on line. However, in order to answer your question, they would have to see the x-rays of where the tumor was located, etc.

It's also difficult to tell unless we are the actual surgeon looking at your colon during the surgery. They may see things that aren't on an x-ray such as other suspicious areas that they feel should come out to be safe.

Reply to Kerry's Post: After the rectum, sigmoid and decending colon, my colon makes a sharp turn. After the turn is where the tumor was.The polyp arises 13 cm from the distal luminal margin. The polyp measures 1.2x1.2x0.3 cm.I do not think the tumor ever showed up on my pet scan or ct scan. The tumor did show up when I had a colonostopy.
After my first operation 9 lymph nodes where checked all negative (lucky me). After the second operation more lymph checked, nodes all negative .
From the very first colonostopy the tumor was biopseyed and put on slides .Pathologist #1 said cancer.I took the exact same slides to Pathologist # 2 he said no cancer. Then I had my colon removed. Therefore I believe I had a very early cancer.Stage 1 (T1 or T2).
   I am 6 feet tall 220 lbs.
Kerey I hope this new info. will help you or a chiming in dr answer my original question. Thanks arnieeee

I'm glad the results of the lymph nodes was so good!

I wish I could help you more. Do you feel comfortable asking the surgeon who did the surgery?

I'm still thinking one of our doctors might jump in here, but if they don't have the answer either, they may not.
