Gynecology

I have had a persistant pain on my lower right hand side of my abdominal area. Back in early January I took a Chinese Herbal which was supposed to cleanse you uterus/ovaries, keep them healthy. I took the herb for 1 week. Notice a strange pulling sensation in that area and stopped. Since then this persistant pain keeps happening. I have had a colonoscopy (Feb), transvaginal ultrasound(Mar), 2 CT scans, a Labrascopy to remove appendix, everything checked out fine, but still feel the pain. My internist says it's from the laprascopy, but I had the pain before that procedure. Do you at all think I should be worried about Ovarian Cancer. After all of these tests something would have showed up right?
Especially having a surgeon look around inside.
I guess I just need reassurance. Thanks

Actually the surgeon would not be able to look inside your ovaries when the lap appendectomy was done.

The ultrasound and the CT scans may well show enlargement or concerns re: ovarian cancer. I know that the ultrsound can show ovarian cysts which look different than ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer does not cause pain until the late stages.

The way to know for sure about ovarian cancer is to ask your doctor if the testing would show ovarian problems, like cancer and you might want to ask him/her about the blood test that can be elevated when there is cancer to see if this is needed for you.

I asked my internist about the test and she said if I wanted to spend $200.00 unnecessarily I could. So I said no, but now I just question it. Also you saying that ovarian cancer doesn't cause pain until late stage is a good sign I guess. I get the pain when I go up and down the stairs too much, walk to fast or bend over. Could it be a pulled muscle? Or something like that.

I would accept my physician's advice. She doesn't feel like anything more needs to be done and feels she can say that you don't have ovarian cancer.

Your pain does seem to be muscle related. Maybe trying an OTC anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen, taken with food, might be helpful.

What does you doctor say?
