The M.D.'s want to do an ultra sound to my pancrease

Sent to Health Experts September 10 05:28 AM

After gall bladder surgery the gastro doctor has informed me that my pancreas is inflamed and I should have an ultra sound where they go in through the mouth and into the stomach with a camera (twighlight sleep procedure) just to check to see if it is just an inflamation from the gall bladder throwing a stone that landed into the pancreas and inflamed it, or the inflamation is from pancreatic cancer. Why should I have that procedure if there is only a one in one thousand percent chance that it could be pancreatic cancer? And, if it is pancreatic cancer what can be done? I have always heard and believed that this is the harshest and most painful of all cancers and that there is no resolution to pancreatic cancer

Pncreatic cnacer is treatable and curable IF it is detected early enough, hence I feel that the doctor's idea is a good one as it may save your life. You are right in stating that the chances of cancer are unlilkely, but if it is suspected then this is the best thing to be done. It is NOT incurable like you are saying, here is some more information about pancreatic cancer:

Certain factors affect prognosis (chance of recovery) and treatment options.

The prognosis (chance of recovery) and treatment options depend on the following:

    * Whether or not the tumor can be removed by surgery.
    * The stage of the cancer (the size of the tumor and whether the cancer has spread outside the pancreas to nearby tissues or lymph nodes or to other places in the body).
    * The patient’s general health.
    * Whether the cancer has just been diagnosed or has recurred (come back).

Pancreatic cancer can be controlled only if it is found before it has spread, when it can be removed by surgery.
