Sent to Health Experts July 20, 2006 8:26 p.m.

my dad has been diagnosed with lung cancer and has had two rounds of chemo and two rounds of radiation. His oncologist has put him on Tarceva (Erlotinib). He also wants to try alternative treatment. He wants to use Waiora, natural cellular defense, which has been approved by the FDA. He is afraid of a drug interaction and we have not been able to get any information about this. He checked with the pharmacist but because both are so new he couldn't answer that question. Is there a way to check this? He is anxious to get started. Thanks so much for your help.

Hello and Welcome to Just Answer,

I would be glad to research this for you. My mother had breast cancer, so I am very interested in the new drugs that are coming out. If you could let me research this, I could probably have some answers by late tonite or early morning. I need to ask one question? Is there another name for Waiora? If not ...thats ok. Also to reassure you, if I cannot find the answer then I can get someone who can. We have plenty of physicians, pharmacist, and specialist I would be glad to get them to answer.
Thank you,
Pam Russell RN

Waiora is the name. You can do a search for it on the web. After pulling it up, select natural cellular defense. It is a zeolite. It is used to remove heavy metals and toxins from the body.

The information on the label says NCD Zeolite, 24mg, 4,5 di-cyclo, disilico, dimagnesium, dialumino, oxyo, trihydrate and the other ingredients are water.

I hope this helps. Thanks for your interest in treatment for cancer.

Hello Janet,

I did a lot of research last night, and I can see where you are having a hard time with this. I found several places where is says that Waiora or Zeolite is perfectly safe to take with anything. But, they always have "check with your doctor first". So, I am going to ask for another expert such as a pharmacist or physician specializing in this certain thing to take over. I will continue to check and make sure they are following up.

Thank you and Good Luck,

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Hello Janet,

Pam asked me to look up your question and see if I could help you.

I have checked the composition of both Erlotinib and Waiora and I do not think there should be any interaction between the two.

Erlotinib is a drug absorbed from the intestines. It acts specifically on the surface of actively growing epidermal cells such as cancer cells of the lungs. You can see more about the drug here :

http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic4/tarceva.htm

Waiora is a liquid Zeolite said to absorb heavy metals and toxins from the body. About 60% is absorbed frm the intestine and eliminated after 5-7 hours from the kidneys, The other 40% is eliminated in the stool.

Zeolite is composed of a complex maze of silica, zeolite and other minerals that are biologically inert - they do not react with any cells of the body. But because the minerals are arranged in a maze or like a cage they trap the heavy metals and toxins and carry them with them when they are expelled from the body.

For more on the effects an the methods of action of Zeolite see:

The company has also applied for a patent for Liquid Zeolite. See : http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6998104.html

I do not think there should be any drug interactions between Erlotinib and Zeolite. Since Erlotinib acts on the surface of growing cells, it will not have any action on Zeolite which is a mineral. And Zeolite, being biologically inert can have no action on the Erlotinib. Both have different functions and act differently.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
