Pancytopenia is the name given for reduction of all the cell types of blood. White, red and platelets.
There are a number of conditions where this can occur and it sounds like your doctors are working their way through tests in order to pin it down.
What is good to know is whether the cells are being produced normally and then destroyed, or if they are not being produced in the first place. The bone marrow tests help to establish this.
If the spleen and liver are normal, it usually means that they are not involved in destroying the cells.
Aside from the bone marrow, if cancer has also been ruled out then that is another possible cause crossed off the list.
Other things to consider may be presence of serious infection, side effect of drug therapy and dietary deficiency ( how is your folate levels?).
Have you had a history of working with animals?
Other things to look at would be any history of night sweats, weight loss, swollen lymph glands.
Have you had a chest xray? What was covered in the CAT scan?
Thanks
