If you are not having pain, I would be confident that you do not have a fissure - these are usually very painful. If you have ever had a crack in the corner of your mouth - you know how they can be so sore. A fissure is along the same thing.
You may have some internal hemorrhoids (external hemorrhoids are usually painful, internal hemorrhoid tend not to be painful). Somepeople get irritation, itching or a general "ache" -and other get bright red rectal bleeding.
You are over the magic age of 50, when we recommend routine colonoscopy screening. With having a symptom (constipation), you now have a second reason.
During the colonoscopy, they could find out if there is any cause for the constipation (narrowing for example), they can make sure there isn't any fissure/hemorrhoids that need attention, AND bonus - screen for cancer and the pre-cancerous polyp. ( know, I think I heard the "Why me?", through the computer)
Here are the current ACS Screening recommendations. (While I'm on the subject, did you get your mammogram?)
I agree with the stool softner, also increasing fluid intake will help, and increasing fiber in the diet
