A friend of mine was just diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She is not saying a whole lot because she is so scared, but she did tell me she has to have a hysterectomy. Does this mean her cancer is further along than stage 1?

I don't know, sorry I don't have more information for you. She has not told me a whole lot. I just know that she said she has to have a hysterectomy so I did not know if that meant it was really serious or not. I read that 75% of these cancer patients die withint five years. That is why I was looking to get more information. I know this does run in her family.

So she has to have the hysterectomy before she finds out what stage she is in?

Her surgeon will make a direct exam of her pelvis during her surgery.

Her pelvic organs will then be subject to pathological analysis.

Then your friend will know what type of tumor she has,the stage of the disease and the best treatment for her.
