I had blood in my stool yesterday. The blood was bright red, on the inside of the stool, not covering or streaking the surface of the stool. It was sort of like when you've had a nosebleed and it starts to clot. Again it was inside the stool. I only noticed it when I wiped and then examined stool more closely.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Hello,
Blood mixed with stools can be due to a variety of causes including infection, hemorrhoids, excessive straining, ulcers, bleeding disorder, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and cancer/tumor. An isolated incident should not be of major concern, but still you should be evaluated by a colonoscopy to rule out cancer or IBD. Every person above 50 years of age should get a colonoscopy done once every 10 years. Continue with fiber rich diet and make an appointment with your doctor.

Regards.
Dr. G

In that case, a cancer is quite unlikely. So a CBC(blood test) along with stool examination may be all that is required for now.
