After one episode of postmenopausal bleeding I had a D&C and laparoscopy. I have had six month check-ups and pap tests, and once every year and a hlaf a transvaginal scan and ultrasounds for fibroids which are very small. I have been called back to the doctor's two days after the last ultrasound and transvaginal scan and am terrified. Should I expect the worst?

Hello there.

Given that you have been very closely observed it is unlikely that you should "expect the worst."

If there have been any interval changes then any potential problem will have been detected at a very early , thus more easily curable, stage.

Only in the US are patients monitored so closely.

In most other countries you would have had your initial tests and no follow up at all!

Thank you so much. My doctor would not speak to me today or let me come in today so I have been a wreck. This is a wonderful service. If ovarian cancer was detected, would it be advanced within one and a half years?

Hi

It's a great shame that your own Dr would not speak with you - surely he/she must understand the anxiety that you must be experiencing.

Most women diagnosed with ovarian cancer are at an advanced stage - that is because when symptoms do occur they do so only when the tumor is advanced.

IF you have a problem that has been detected by screening it is statistically more probable that it is at an early stage.

Once again, thank you. You were there when my own doctor wasn't and I really thank you for that!
