Question

4 weeks, still feeling sick

Sent to Health Experts August 22, 2005 3:58 p.m.

I've been sick for 4 weeks, It started with a cough then congestion, wheezing and tiredness, without a fever. At week three I finally went to the doctor. Dr. Earp, on Bell Rd, Scottsdale. I was given Antibiotics (Augmenin). He also gave me an inhaler (albuterol) for the wheezing.Today my coughing is still wet, I have congestion with my nose running constantly, and I'm tired. I don't have any head congestion pressure or head pain and haven't for the last week.

Also, during the past 4 weeks I tore a muscle in my chest from coughing (on my right side under where my bra wire lies). Last Monday, I went back to the doctor to tell him of the pain in the chest . I was given Celebrex, to be taken twice a day, and Hydroco/Apap5-500mg for the pain in the evenings. The Hydroco makes me groggy so I've only taken a couple in the past week. My chest hurts to touch, cough, stretch, move, etc. Since I'm without health insurance I declined an x-ray but I feel good about not getting one as this is very similar to other muscle pains I've had in the past from running.

My concern is, 3 days ago was the last dose of my antibiotics, so why do I still have the cough, nasal congestion, wheezing and tiredness? I still feel sick.

The tiredness is a major concern but the continued coughing is hindering the healing of my chest pain which is extremely sore in the evenings and while I sleep. Since I'm without health insurance, and I've spent most of my cash on the past two visits, I'm hesitant in going to the doctors office again without further advice.

Can you help advise me?
