I've been having chest and upper back pain, what can this be?
Sent to Health Experts October 29 10:25 PM

I've been experiencing pressure-like chest and upper back pain for over a year now. My pain has been persistent for months then stopped completely for over 8 months. Then for the past 6 months it return again. The pain ranges from mild but peristent to severe and physically exhausting.
Pain medications prescribed and OTC alleviate the
pain but never make the pain disappear completely. I was given an injection in the ER of some kind of pain med which took the pain completely. I was good as new. I was told however that because it was a narcotic they could not give me a prescription for it. I have Naproxin, and Tylenol with Codeine, but they help very little. Sometimes I feel like my back is throbbing or swollen. It does not make a difference if I move or apply pressure to my back/chest. The pain is always there and unaffected by movement or touch. Please help!!!

Reply to Lindie's Post: Absolutely not. I have a healthy diet. I've been having liver problems(abnormal liver enzymes for about 2 yrs now, some necrosis, fibrosis in Biopsy) Doctor thinks I have Hep C, but its impossible because of the many ways Hep C is contracted. I have never had a tatoo/piercing, sex(at 38 I am still a virgin(I am a devout Christian waiting for marriage)never had a blood transfusion, nor ever used needles or drugs, etc. The most I've done is use my brother's razor. He recently was diagnosed with Alcoholic Hepatitis, which is not the same as Hep C. So I'm not sure if my chest/upper back pain is related. Other than Major Depression, I am very healthy physically.

Reply to Lindie's Post: Hi, thank you for your response. My pain is exactly all around the breast area. In other words it is in the upper area where my breasts are. The pain is radial. It usually starts in my upper back, the area where the back of my bra is and goes around completely to the front area of my breasts. I do not feel any pain below my breastbone nor any lower part of my back. The pain is very localized. It goes across toward the back exactly where my bra is. When the pain is severe then the pain spreads to my entire back. At times there is minimal pain in my chest but really sharp pain in my back. Please be advised that I went to see my doctor, but she had an emergency and a male doctor saw me instead. I was hurt and insulted when he asked "is your bra on too tight?" I actually informed my female doctor and she said it was inappropriate of him to ask such a question. After all he knew I had spent 3 days in a row because of my pain. Nothing helped except when they gave me 2 shots of some kind of narcotic pain medication. I hope I've given you enough information and then some. Sorry.
