I started having chest pain over the weekend, went to the ER and they did chest xray and blood work. told me I have inflammation of chest wall, then later called when I got home and said they made a mistake that it is pneumonia. I haven't been sick at all and it is just hard for me to think I have pneumonia. They gave me a zpac and I took the last one this morning and still no difference in how I feel. I have difficultly breathing and have pain in chest and back. I have smoked for over 17 yrs and I am worried about lung cancer. Do you think I should see a specialist?

Definitely! Let me explain what likely happened here. The X ray specialist read the X-ray later and saw a spot on the lung that is consistent with a pneumonia (a spot that the Emergency Physician apparently missed). However I agree that the absence of any cough, fever, etc makes this unlikely. Therefore the spot might be something else such as a cancer. Going to a good regular MD might be a start or you could go to a "Pulmunologist" (a lung specialist). By the way, i assume they also did at least an EKG.
