This can be due to a swelling in your esophagus and can cause constriction of the muscles in your throat and cause you to feel as though you are choking and have issues with swallowing. They can first try medication to loosen the muscles and contriction of your esophagus but if that does not work then they choose to perform surgery to allow for less constriction of your airways. If this is only happening twice a year they would want to first try medication to be taken at the first sign of airway contriction and it can also occur from an allergic reaction aswell. If this appears a couple times a year, more commonly in the spring and fall it could very well be a possible side effect of an allergic reaction but sounds more like esophagus swelling so if it is best to be seen when this is occuring so they can determine if muscles relaxants would be a help or if it is caused from another underlying medical issue, but is most common from allergies, acid reflux, or esophagus swelling and since you have no burning or chest pain it is easy to rule out acid reflux.
