Question

I believe I swallowed a lemon seed and it did not go ...

Sent to Health Experts May 01, 2007 4:28 p.m.

I believe I swallowed a lemon seed and it did not go down my esophagus, but rather my trachea. Is this possible? What should I do if it is? I am having some difficulty breathing, but nothing serious. Also, my chest hurts somewhat.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

If you are having any difficultu breathing and also have some pains in your chest I do not mean to alarm you but even though this is small it can cause your esophagus to swell and become inflammed and this may cut off your airway. If a piece of bread will not get this down then do be seen as yes this is possible and I even advise exercising caution on the small piece of bread as this could cut off your airway altogether and I am worried about that. This can also be a sign of a cardiac issue too so please do keep this in mind as your problem with breathing and the fact you are having some chest pain can indicate a more serious issue so I honestly feel being seen is best before it could become worse.

I am not worried about a cardiac issue as nothing was wrong until the lemon seed issue. This occured 4 hours ago and I ate lunch after it happened. My shortness of breath is not very bad and I do not have much problems swallowing. I don't know who I could see today, except ER.

To make clear: I am worried that this lemon seed is in my lungs or on its way there, I don't think crackers would help. Sorry for any confusion

Thank you, I will continue to monitor, but not go to ER. If anything should worsen I might consider it though. Hopefully everything will just be ok and I was just having a sensation rather than it going into my trachea. Thanks again.
