Question

clymidia

Sent to Health Experts June 23, 2006 4:57 p.m.

I am married and pregnant. My husband and I were seperated last year for four months. My recent exam from my o.b. said I had clymidia. They also said from my two previous pregnancies I did not test positive. My husband says he's had no intercourse during our seperation. I have remained monogomous so the only possible answer to this: 12 years ago I was in a relationship and had vaginal and anal intercourse with this person. Is it possible I contacted clymida during anal sex with him and have it now because recently my husband and I have had anal sex and it was transmitted at this time? Could this bacteria have been in the anal area for this long and I not known until now?

Mrs T,
Although chlamydia usually shows symptoms early, and it would be unusual for you to carry this without symptoms, it is difficult to say for sure that this did not happen. Here is a link to the CDC website about chlamydia:

http://www.cdc.gov/std/Chlamydia/STDFact-Chlamydia.htm

You should also talk to your husband about getting tested for chlamydia as well so that he can be treated for this if he has not already done so. If both of you are not treated then the chlamydia will recur.
