Dear mpere,
You will need to have laboratory tests to confirm diagnosis however, it is possible that you have chlamydia or gonorrhea or possibly a urinary tract infection. The symptoms are very similar and include burning, itching, and redness especially upon urination and sometimes some discharge is noted. Gonorrhea has an incubation period of 2 to 14 days which means you may begin having symptoms somewhere between 2 to 14 days of being infected. Antibiotics CAN cure gonorrhea. Chlamydia can also be cured with antibiotics. Chlamydia has an incubation period of 1 to 3 weeks with similar symptoms as gonorrhea. Both chlamydia and gonorrhea are sexually transmitted diseases. A urinary tract infection is also a possibilty and can cause the same type of symptoms as the above STD's. Again, a coarse of antibiotics is the treatment.
Your doctor will likely take a urine sample to check for bacteria and a swab test using a cotton tip swab and swabbing the opening of the urethra (the opening where you urinate.) These tests will help diagnose you so you can be treated accordingly......most likely antibiotics.
Unfortunately you are not able to see your doctor until Monday so in the meantime, try to drink plenty of fluids and it does not hurt to continue to use the Neosporin or hydrocortisone cream. Both can be purchased over-the-counter and can help make you more comfortable.
IF YOU DEVELOP A FEVER over the weekend, do not wait for your appointment. You should go to your local urgent care clinic or ER for treatment. There you will have the testing done and antibiotics started right away. Keep an eye on your temperature.
