Question

Could I have contracted Chlamydia 18 months ago?

Sent to Health Experts September 06, 2007 1:06 p.m.

I was diagnosed with Chlamydia 3 weeks ago following a routine pap-smear. I immediately asked my boyfriend to get tested as well. His results were negative (I was there when he got the results). He has been my only sexual partner for about 18 months now. I understand that the symptoms can go undetected, but is it possible I contracted Chlamydia more than 18 months ago with a previous partner?

Thank you so much for your assistance.

Yes in some cases Chlamydia can lay dormant and will not heal if you do not have a high enough of an immune system to fight of this strain of infection. Which is why this turned up on your pap smear but you did not have noticable symptoms. It is lucky his results were negative and he did not get this as well, but if he has a high immune system this could be why as well. In most cases even with HPV the non-cancerous strains can be fought within two years if the woman has a high immune system so this sort of is like that in the same sense so it is possible you did contract this before you met your current boyfriend if you have only been together 18 months and you know that he is faithful to you. And you are so very welcome for my help.
