Question

I'm pregnant and was told that i was positive for

Sent to Health Experts September 14, 2007 10:02 a.m.

I'm pregnant and was told that i was positive for chlyamdia. My husband was tested and came out negitive. Is this possible? Is it possible that i was misdiagnosed. I took my perscription like the doc said tho but he wont retest me because my partner wasn't treated. His doc said he didn't need treatment because the test was negitive. I did not cheat on him. I have had problems with yeast infections in the past 6 years. Could it have been that which i had and not chlaymdia?

Greetings,

Chlamydia infections can often be asymptomatic for years in 80% of women although they usually cause symptoms in men (painful urination, fluid drainage from the penis). You may have been a carrier of chlamydia for many years without knowing it and may not have transmitted it to your husband.

The most commonly used tests for chlamydia (PCR analysis and enzyme assay) is very specific and has few false positive results so it is unlikely that you did not have the bacteria (although it is a slight possibility... less than 10%). Yeast infections would not cause a false positive result.

Either way, it is important that you received treatment for chlamydia since if it is left untreated it can cause complications during pregnancy.

I hope this helps,

Sincerely,

Dr.Bernon
