I was recently told that I was having atrial fibrulations at the time of the visit I was veri ill this was because mu bp was 254/141 I was given iv meds at first and then started on toprol-xl so my question about this is what drugs are usually first-choice when atrial fibrulations secondly The doctor told me that atrial fibrulation increases risk of stroke and dr. said that since i also have bp that is high as well as high cholesterol The dr. when doing a heart catherazation then doing prosedure to open the artery I was allowed to go home and told to go to the dr. every six months and no less than one time a year Although bp was dropped significantly I was still at 139/87 wich is right on the edge of high bp The doctor said that there had been some kind of study that in those who are at high risk or have already had strokes that a three drug regamin can be veri helpful I was prescribed altace, plavix, and crestor so now my medications are toprol, hydrochlorathizide, for bp controll, ace, plavix, and crestor

Hi

No ativan will not slow your heart but the beta blocker ( toprol ) will.

If you are on a proper dose your heart rate should be 60-70 beats per minute.

If you are no longer in AF then you are no longer at an increased risk of stroke.

If someone is in permanent AF then they will usually be offered coumadin as anticoagulation to prevent strokes.
