I have a large hard stool that will not pass. Have tried enemas. Will a stool softener soften a stool already in the bowel?

Enemas,suppository, took a stool softener but don't know whether it will have any effect on a stool already in the bowel.

They will not have much effect on stools in the bowel already, you can try some canned pumpkin, or coffee which both are known to soften stools but since you have tried an enema, suppositories, and a stool softner if these do not work you may have to have the stool manually removed for the stool softners to work. Enemas are usually the best remedy for constipation but if this has not worked and you are suffering from stomach pain due to constipation your best bet would be to try the coffee and pumpkin and if they do not help you tp be able to relieve yourself then you may need to go to the ER for manual removal.
