Other than good vaginal hygiene, a change in diet is also called for to prevent bacterial vaginitis. Foods that contain low calories and high fibre, yoghurt help in controlling vaginosis. Refined and processed food on the other hand aggravate it. This has to do with the pH.
Bacterial vaginosis occurs as a result of overgrowth of anerobic bacteria in the vagina and in case of repeated occurrence, one must go for a checkup of vaginal pH levels. Use of condoms or diaphragm should be done on a regular basis.
The usual precautions which you must be familiar by now-
- wearing airy cotton undergarments
- washing the private parts from before backwards avoiding the anal area contamination to the vaginal area
- Avoiding douching and cosmetic feminine hygiene products
Other important thing to be kept in mind is avoiding alochol even a drop while you are on metronidazole which is a common medicine given to treat the bacterial vaginosis as it can cause severe side effects of nausea and vomiting when combined. Hope this has been useful.
