Hi KM:
Mono is a serious health threat and has been fatal in some. To experience a bout of Mono is like taking a very stiff and highly starched wash cloth and letting it sit in a pail of strong bleach for 24 hours or so...I'm sure you get this. The rag is severely damaged and needs serious repair work or mending!
If your doctor said this is the body attempting to heal, he could be right. The problem I see is that you saw him in February. Did he give you an estimated time for this to happen?
Also, are you or have you recently begun taking any form of birth control? Often times, when a woman begins a new BC regime it is not uncommon for her to experience irregular periods or unusual discharge as you have mentioned, while her body adjusts.
You say that you are experiencing cramping with the discharge? Did your doctor give you an exam? Or, did he just listen to you and suggest that it was your body righting itself being that evrything else was OK?
The reason that I ask is because women that have cysts can show the symptoms that you are describing. PID, Pelvic Inflammatory disease can also show these symptoms. The good news is that each of these can be treated; however, cysts can be recurring.
Research shows that Herpes can be transmitted orally and can present in the oral or genital regions of the body. Simplex I and II also have the ability to travel to other regions. In other words, genital Herpes isn't restricted to the genital region. The symptoms you describe don't coincide with Herpes though.
I doubt that you have an STD from oral sex that took place in August 2005. Most STD's present much quicker. Being that you had Mono, your body was already in a weakened state and any other viral or bacterial infections that you may have been carrying would have most likely presented then.
If your problem continues, I would have a pelvic exam done. Your doctor may also order lab work or an ultrasound. Until he has confirmed anything, I wouldn't worry. Cysts don't pose an imminent threat to your life, but they can be uncomfortable and shouldn't be left untreated. Neither should PID.
