About a week ago I started experiencing some blood when I wipe my stool. I thought maybe it was a hemrrohoid, but I don't think it is. This afternoon I had to go again and this time I got bright red blood when I wiped and the water in the toilet was bright red as well. It is not coming from my urine, it only shows up in my stool. Do you have any ideas of what is going on or possibly going on. Thanks

This could be related to your colon and intestional tract so this does need further evaluation into whether this can be related to colonitis or even a possible bleeding ulcer that is causing the blood, and if you are having this much bleeding then this definately needs to be further evaluated as soon as possible as if this was a hemmeroid and it has not gotten better by trying some Preperation H then this could related more toward your intestional tract then a hemmoroid.

Reply to Cheryl K.'s Post: I do have IBS, Acid Reflux and peptic ulcers. I am taking Nexium and have been on it for 2 years. It helps with the heartburn. I also though maybe I had a UTI. It felt like my bladder was emptying but I did drink some cranberry juice and that seems to be better. I am experiencing some mild burning in my stomach. I really don't think it is hemrroids. Does this change anything?

It does not change what I would recommend and think this is related to, the nexium can help with acid reflux but with the amount of blood you are experiencing you need to have them do a colonoscopy at the very least to determine if the bleeding is coming from an ulcer or your colon. If you are not exeriencing any cramping it could very well be due to hemmeroids but if you are experiencing some burning then it does seem to be related to what I have suggested and I would not wait to allow this to continue. It can in some cases with colonitis to just need antibiotics to clear it up and if there is any bacteria in the urine it will help with this as well but this does not sound like a UTI if you are not having blood in the urine or the urgency unlikely it is that this is a UTI. With the history of IBS you do need to allow your physician to perform further evaluation.

Reply to Cheryl K.'s Post: I did have a colonoscopy 2 years ago and they did find about 5 polps all large in size. They did tell me they were not cancerous so that's good. But can more pop up that quick in a 2 year period. I also at time have sharp stabbing pain right below the breast in the center (hernia). I also am bloated all the time and I have been taking water pills. I do appreciate all your answers and I am very satisfied. Just let me know. Thanks again

The polyps can cause bleeding but more so in the urine if they grow and start to cause problems. More can pop up so it is wise to gether regular pap smears and pelvic examinations. The stabbing breast pain can be caused from the acid reflux. If you are also bloated this is necesary for more evaluation as well so I think that an MRI, pelvix examination, and a pap smear are all necessary. You are so welcome for my answers and please let me know if I can be of further help.
