Question

I recently went to the dentist with an infected tooth.

Sent to Health Experts January 18 3:14 p.m.

I recently went to the dentist with an infected tooth. They prescribed me some penicillin and hydrocodon. Two days later, my lower back, left side away from spine, starting having spasms. the first spasm was while I was lieing down sleeping. And for the past couple of days it has been on and off, with no regularity. When the spasms do occur, I can''t take deep breaths. I was told to lay off the codon which I have but the spasms still persist. The pains are getting worst, so help soon as possible.

Hello Customer (name blocked for privacy),

It sounds like you are experiencing side effects of hydrocodone. It is good that you had stopped taking it. Elimination of hydrocodone and its metabolites is pretty fast but the symptoms is expected to stay for few days. If you are experiencing mild spasms only and your BREATHING is acceptable, you need not to worry - no long term damage will occur. As what you are doing, continue drinking plenty of water. Drink lots of fruit juices - cranberry juice, citrus juices, etc. For your toothache, you may use over the counter medicine like Ibuprofen and Paracetamol WITHOUT HYDROCODONE. If spasms remain after 3 days, BACLOFEN may help to relieve the spam symptoms. For the meantime, avoid alcohol consumption.

If your spasms seem to be increasing everyday, then you need to see a doctor.

Take care!
