In the last month I have had strange things happening
Sent to Health Experts October 22 01:23 PM

In the last month I have had strange things happening to the inside of my mouth and my tongue. The first time the inside of my cheeks and lips swelled up. By the time I was able to head to a doctor - 2 1/2 hrs later- it was subsiding.   The inside of my mouth felt like I had scalded the whole inside of my mouth. Since then I have had 4 other experiences- either the inside of both cheeks, and/or my tongue were involved. Last night just my tongue was involved. Today it still feels scalded. I'm not sure if this is some sort of oral allergy reaction (no common denominators prior to 'event) except the fact that I was eating or drinking something. Could it have to do with my salivary glands?

Reply to Doctor_Shiv(M.D)'s Post: I am not on any regular medication. Once in a while I take a Claratin. I do eat fruits and vegetables... but not sure if I would be ingesting enough vitamin C.

Reply to Doctor_Shiv(M.D)'s Post: Each time the swelling settles down 2-3 hours after it begins. But the sensation that my mouth has been scalded with hot water remains for 3-4 days. The sensation I would term a discomfort- not really painful. I have not had any illnesses, or cough.

Swelling can be due to blockage in salivary duct. The most common cause of blockage is stone in duct. Blockage makes saliva back up inside the duct, causing the salivary gland to swell.

A typical symptom of a blocked salivary duct is swelling that worsens just before mealtime or particularly when a person eats a pickle .The tretment of blocked salivary duct is by Dentist ,when he presses the duct, stone is pushed outside.Other treatment is surgical.

But all can be said surely only by proper examination. So you can take advice from your Dentist.
