I saw a dentist this morning for a tooth ache. He prescribed penicillian, ibuprofen and vicoden. Now my cheek has swollen like the mumps. Is this from the antibiotic working?

Hello,

The swelling is from the infection and inflammation in the tooth that was causing the ache that sent you to the dentist. It is the body's response to an insult. The penicillin will take a few days to kill all the infection, the ibuprofen will help with the swelling, and the vicodin should help with the pain. You can use cool compresses to reduce the swelling in your cheek. Hope it feels better soon; a toothache is the pits.
