Hi! I have a question about Amoxycillan. I've been on 250 mg capsules, 3 X/day for 3 days and then began taking 1 (250 mg) capsule a.m. and 1 500 mg. capsule p.m. when I ran out of the 250 mg capsules. I have taken this for 2 additional days with a total of 4 full days on Amoxycillan plus 1 250 mg capsule.

I am having dizziness, nausia, some stomach pain and frequent urination from taking the 500 mg capsules. My dentist gave me the wrong dosage and the pharmacy was unable to get it changed and told me to half the capsules which is not possible to do so I tried the full 500 mg and they are making me very sick. I am traveling and cannot return to the dental office where I got the prescription. I did not have an infection but took the Amoxycillan to prevent one after having two cavities cleaned and filled as I have a sensitive immune system.

My question is this: Can I stop the Amoxycillan now? What is the minimum no of days that Amoxycillan is prescribed ? Thank you! Randy

I tried WEB MD to see if I can stop taking the Amoxycillan at 4 days? I am having a reaction to the 500 mg capsules. I am concerned that I might develop other problems with vaginal or urinary infections if I stop but I'm definitely having an allergic reaction to the larger dose. I haven't been able to take anything over 250 mg for many years and I should not have tried taking it. I appreciate any assistance. Thank you.

Hello

Four days as a prophylactic is probably enough, but I would clear that with your doctor first. You might also try eating something before taking the capsule as that will coat your stomach and prevent the nausea. If it is making you ill, that isn't good either. So if the food doesn't help, give the dentist a call on Monday and see if you should continue them then, and stop them until then.
