I had a root canal done on my #18 molar. The dentist took about 1/2 hr to complete the job and stuck a temporary filling in the tooth. He didn't give me a follow-up appointment. Instead, the secretary told me she would call the dentist who would be doing the crown work and set an appointment for me. I went in for the root canal 5 days ago and the tooth is still killing me. I called the endodontist and he told me to come in this morning so he could look at it. All he did was drill alittle bit on the top of the filling...telling me I must have been biting down on it and irritating it. I told him he could be assured I haven't been biting down on that tooth whatsoever because I cannot put ANY pressure on it. He hit certain spots of the tooth and asked if they hurt. One area he hit hurt tremendously. He concluded by telling me that the tooth is fine and it just takes longer for some root canals to heal. He reluctantly gave me a prescription for an antibiotic. Doesn't this seem strange?

Female, Age: 39, Florida

Already Tried:
Ibuprofen, acetaminephin, not touching the tooth at all and most certainly not trying to chew on it...even though that would be impossible anyway. Tried asking the dentist if the root may be fractured and that could be the reason for the pain. Was told he can't tell if there is a fracture by looking at an x-ray. I could see the x-ray and asked him why the materials he used to fill the root canals look like they came out of the tip of the root and he answered by saying "Oh, I didn't realize you are familiar with endodontic x-rays...do you think there is something wrong with that? Well, there isn't!" This whole experience with this dentist has put a scared into me. I've paid this guy $1000 and I don't think he's being honest with me. I don't know what to think.
