Dear Randy,

The dentist will take a history, and then examine you. Depending on the problem he or she will discuss treatment options and price. If you choose an extraction, the dentist will apply some numbing gel to the gum, and then inject novocaine to numb the area. The numbing agent may contain epinephrine which may cause your heart beat to increase, so if you have any heart problems make sure the dentist knows this ahead of time. Dental treatment these days does all it can to preserve a tooth.

I hope this helps, thanks for writing JA, take care, Paula
