I keep coughing followed by gagging

Sent to Health Experts June 28 11:19 AM

For about 7 or 8 months now I will at random times throughout the day cough and at the end of the cough, gag a bit. It happens rarely but I have days where it happens numerous times, and sometimes I have gone weeks without it happening. It happened again this morning and I've done it about 8 times in the last hour. It isn't painful and is sometimes sparked when I walk into a new environment. Sometimes if i feel like i'm going to do it I just stop moving and I can stop it. At first I was just sick but as it didn't stop I started to lean towards it being the side effect of a throat disease. I have been slacking on my dental hygiene and haven't seen a dentist in about 2 years and i've been beginning to think it might be connected to some disease of the mouth or throat (but as of now I know of none that I have but it is possible). I have also thought that maybe it was just the environment I'm in, dust in the air and such. What are the possible causes of these gagging coughs? Thanks
