Reply to Pauline's Post: No, it has not been noticeably inflamed any time I visited the dentist. Also, I do not get sores in any other spots.
It usually is same color as my gums, but just small bump. When inflamed, it is red and gets larger... like the size of a large pimple. Right now, it also feels like some of the tissue is torn.

Are there any foods or drinks that will help or hurt this?

You will find that salt or acidic foods will irritate this. Chewing dry or sharp foods such as cereal may also be painful however there is no food that will help this go down.

For symptomatic relief, you could use an over the counter oral gel containing lidocaine or benzocaine but this will not treat the underlying problem. But it may make it more comfortable.
