i went to a dentist 4 weeks ago and at the same visit he wanted to remove a tooth. he could not do as he could not numb my tooth..even after 8 injections.
i was in servere shock even beford he touched it as i went freezing cold, shaking etc ( i have a fear of dentists )and he did not even recognise the signs. basically i get pain now even efecting my jaw where it meets up to the ear on the outside of my face, i am wondering if all the jaring about and stress caused me to get that tmj? condition i think thats what it is called. i still have the tooth and am witing to be refered to be knocked out. he did give me a course of antibiotics for 5 days but not sure if that was enough, for all i know i could have had an infection and his messing around has caused it too spread?
help please what to do?should i just go to my doctor

The reason that the anesthetic did not work was that your fear caused an increase in adrenaline which over-rode the anesthetic which tries to block pain signals. On your next visit you should use diazepam 5 or 10mg one hour before your appointment to reduce the fear aspect. Your GP can give you a prescription for few tablets to cover your visits.

Once you discover that the anesthetic works then you will feel better about the dentist.

I think it is unlikely that you have suddenly developed TMJ, but it is possible that the infection has spread and needs a longer course of antibiotics or a different type. What antibiotic did you use?

i have had injections before for filling but i know it was a bit of a shock for him to say tooth out and then and there perhaps your right about me stopping the injection from working because of the fear i was only expecting a filling done and that was hard enough.
he actually brusied my lower jaw trying to get tooth out the outside of may face swelled up big time for 2-3 weeks it still does not feel right now i will get some more antibiotics ta

Sometimes dental infections are caused by anerobic bacteria so you need metronidazole 200mg or 400mg three times daily for minimum of 5 days, your GP may be able to help if you cannot see your dentist this week.
