I have long term depression, and over the years

Sent to Health Experts April 22 09:53 PM

I have long term depression, and over the years have taken a variey of prescription medications including the last--Effexor. None have been effective. About 6 months ago, in response to back pain, Hydroco-apap was prescribed. This seems to be the only medication I''ve ever used that makes a substantial impact on the condition. A tablet of 10-650MG helps considerably. I know this medcation can be habit forming; yet when the pain of depression becomes too great, it is the only thing so far that brings relief. Why would a pain medication have this effect on depression?

Hi bernesco

Hydroco-apap is a probably narcotic analgesic, and is a comibination of Hydrocodone (narcotic) and acitominophan .(on the basis of information available from net)

Hydrocodone is a opioid which is subjectively addictive because of the user experiencing the euphoric high (rush) which elevate the mood.

Because of this rush you feel better initially.

Since you already know it is addictive,I would recommend that you should consult a Psychiatrist to find a Antidepressant which you are able to tolerate,or you can also opt for Psychotherapy sessions by a Psychiatrist/Psychologist.

Regards
