not sure if my son is depressed? Or just angry

first of all sons fathers family suffers from forms of deppression. My son has shown signs earlier in life withdrawal etching in walls. He
seemed to be over these things for years. Now he has made some bad choices and was punished for them, he wrote a journal of sorts that says he doesn't know who he is and that he feels cold he admited that he had manipulated people and took things because he didn't feel they were important. He has distant himself from the family
eats byhimself goes to his room works on weights
and then goes to bed at 8pm. says were trying to pick his morals. He has no respect for other peoples things. Has lied and stole with out feeling any real remorse. This is the first time he has really been punished which we really didn't punish just talked to him about the right and wrong things. But limits were set down for him. He is anti drug, anti smoking big time.
