I am 6ft tall and weigh 120lbs. I am underweight for my height according to standard charts. I don't have much of an appetite, combined with a high metabolism, I cannot gain any weight. I have been on antidepressants for mild clinical depression for one year which have a common side effect of increased appetite and/or weight gain. But my weight has been steady for about 10 years. Now challenged with infertility, I need to gain weight to increase my fertility. What can you suggest?

Optional Information:
Female , Age: 34

Already Tried:
Eating junk food, alcohol, herbal teas, forcing myself to eat all day which makes me nauseous.

You need to eat a well balanced diet with fruit and vegetables. It is important to include vitamin c, zink, calcium and vitamin d to your diet to increase male fertility. Taking Centrum multivitamin capsule helps. Decrease the amount of alcohol and caffeine that you take because they decrease the fertility.

You also need to increase your calorie intake to gain weight. I suggest to you to see a dietitian to help you with that .

I missed your being female. You need to eat a well balanced diet with salad, fruit and vegetables. A poor diet, lacking in nutritional value, has been shown to have a negative effect on a person's fertility. The busy lifestyles of people today mean that we often consume more fast foods and pre-packaged foods. These types of foods are more processed or more refined and contain more fat, sugar and salt. They are low in vitamins and minerals. Poor eating habits such as skipping meals and crash diets can also result in poor nutrition.Taking Centrum multivitamin capsule helps too.

You also need to increase your calorie intake to gain weight. I suggest to you to see a dietitian to help you with that . A health care provider may be helpful to you to prevent the nausea which is effecting your eating.

So, proper exercise and diet are important for maintaining good health and proper weight. Maintaining a healthy weight may help restore menstrual and ovulatory cycles in women and consequently improve the chances of pregnancy.
