Sent to Health Experts August 29, 2006 11:22 a.m.

I have been battling a urinary tract infection for some time. Went to the E.D. two weeks ago and was prescribed Bactrim for two weeks and was told it may end up being thirty days. It took a week for the symptoms to subside and then I had five days of relative relief. Now, I'm symptomatic again (I called and got another two weeks of medication) Is this normal?

Optional Information:
Female , Age: 47

Already Tried:
several different antibiotics--had a culture done and found out the bacteria was orsa. Also was x-rayed to check for kidney stones.

Hi

No it's not normal.

You need a full work up by a urologist to see why you are getting these recurrent infections.

This would include a cystoscopy ( camera inside the bladder), ultrasound ( or CT) + a check to ensure your kidneys are emptying normally.

Excluding diabetes and checking your CBC is also indicated.

Hope this helps.
